Revenue climbed to $757 million in 2015 at VCC, the largest general contracting firm in Arkansas. The company, with varied projects that dot the state, is known nationally for its retail work, such as the mammoth Downtown Summerlin development under construction on the western edge of Las Vegas. VCC operates offices in Fayetteville as well as three in Texas — in Dallas, Houston and McAllen — and in Atlanta; Phoenix; Tampa, Florida; Irvine, California; and Sao Palo. Sam Alley, who has served as CEO since 2004, helped found the company in 1987 with Gus Vratsinas and Ed DeMoss.
Scott Copas, 63

Baldwin & Shell Construction Co., Little Rock
Scott Copas is directing the company’s expansion beyond its historical, Arkansas-only market since his promotion to president and chief executive officer in January 2014. He rose through the ranks during his 39 years with the general contracting firm. Joining Baldwin & Shell as an estimator in 1977, Copas was named executive vice president and chief operating officer in 2012. The company tallied 2015 revenue of $151 million, and Copas intends to build on that with work in surrounding states. Baldwin & Shell operates regional offices in Jonesboro and Rogers.
Cody Crawford, 37

CR Crawford Construction LLC, Fayetteville
Founded by Cody Crawford and Jason Keathley in 2006, CR Crawford Construction climbed into the upper tier of Arkansas general contractors in 2014, and revenue hit $125 million last year. Scott Stokenbury, vice president of business development, joined the company in 2007 and became a partner in 2008. Retail construction for clients such as Wal-Mart, Academy Sports and Harps grocery accounts for about a third of the company’s jobs. The balance of projects is scattered across office, medical, education, financial and restaurants. CR Crawford Construction was honored last month as the Arkansas Business of the Year for companies with 26-75 employees.
Lloyd Garrison, 62

CDI Contractors LLC, Little Rock
Revenue at CDI Contractors for the fiscal year ending Feb. 1 totaled $284.5 million, including $77 million worth of work done for Dillard’s. Lloyd Garrison has led the company since 2009. His promotion followed Dillard’s Inc. buying sole control of the firm from the family of founding CEO Bill Clark, who died in 2007. Garrison, a staffer with the company since its formation in 1987, is a veteran on the Arkansas construction scene. His extensive résumé includes serving as project manager of the 40-story Simmons Tower, the state’s tallest building, during his tenure at Pickens-Bond Construction Co.
Thomas Schueck, 74

Lexicon Inc., Little Rock
Lexicon Inc. is the parent corporation for a family of companies that generated revenue of $352 million during 2015. Since founding the structural steel erection, millwright and plant maintenance firm in 1968, Thomas Schueck has expanded into specialty fabrication and contracting with subsidiaries that include Custom Metals and Prospect Steel in Arkansas and L-Con Engineers & Constructors and Heritage Links in Texas. The five divisions that include Schueck Steel have a workforce of 1,800 that worked 4.4 million man-hours in 2015.
Greg Williams, 56

Nabholz Construction Corp., Conway
Greg Williams began his new role as CEO at Nabholz Construction in January 2014. His tenure with the company’s management team dates back 25 years when he joined the firm in 1991 as controller. A CPA by training, Williams was named chief financial officer in 1995 and served on the board of directors for 11 years. The company recorded 2015 revenue of $541 million. Nabholz operates eight offices in Arkansas along with locations in Memphis; Kansas City, Missouri; Springfield, Missouri; Oklahoma City; and Tulsa.
