
Arkansas Business Senior Editor Mark Friedman was recognized Saturday with a gold award for investigative reporting for his expose of the class-action legal strategy for which John Goodson of Texarkana and 15 other attorneys will be sanctioned by a federal judge next week.
Friedman’s award was one of five that Arkansas Business Publishing Group received at the annual awards banquet of the Alliance of Area Business Publishers in Des Moines, Iowa. The other winners were:
- Managing Editor Jan Cottingham, whose feature on Matt Campbell, the Little Rock attorney behind the Blue Hog Report blog, won a silver award in the category of best personality profile;
- Senior Editor George Waldon, whose report on the dispute between siblings George Dunklin Jr. and Deborah Tipton over 16,000 acres of prime duck-hunting land received a silver award for best scoop;
- ArkansasBusiness.com, managed by Online Editor Lance Turner, which received a bronze award in the best website category; and
- Greenhead, the annual duck-hunting magazine, which received silver in the category of best ancillary publication. Greg Churan is the associate publisher of Greenhead, and the editor and managing editor of the 2015 issue were Brent Birch and Todd Traub. C. Waynette Traub is the magazine’s art director.
AABP’s Editorial Excellence Awards for work produced in 2015 were judged by members of the journalism faculty at the University of Missouri at Columbia.
AABP is a nonprofit national organization representing 64 independent magazine and newspaper members in the United States, Canada and Australia.
