Arkansas Children’s Hospital on Monday announced a $1 million gift from Valero and a $500,000 gift from Arkansas Children’s Foundation Board member Stuart Cobb as part of the ongoing statewide public launch of its $250 million Campaign for a Healthier Tomorrow.
Both gifts will support the Arkansas Children’s Dental Outreach Program which includes mobile dental clinics and the school-based Dental Sealant Program. The latter reaches more than 60 schools and 8,000 students each year in Arkansas. It has an educational component called “teACHout” that encourages healthy oral habits like brushing and flossing.
Since 2009, the Dental Outreach Program has provided 12,500 dental exams through mobile dental clinics, screened 31,400 children, and provided fluoride applications and applied 73,000 dental sealants.
Delta Dental, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkansas, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkoma and Walmart have also supported the Dental Outreach Program.
