Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Makes High Profile Change

1 min read

Rachel O’Neal enjoyed being business editor of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, a role she’s held since April 2013, but she missed writing. Last week, she took back her old job as the paper’s High Profile editor, her haunt from 2009 to 2012.

Jim Kordsmeier will succeed her as business editor. Kordsmeier’s duties as assistant business editor will be reassigned, O’Neal told Outtakes.

Cyd King, High Profile editor since Bobby Ampezzan left the paper in 2016, has returned to northwest Arkansas to work for the American Heart Association. The Democrat-Gazette was expected to announce the changes on Sunday.

O’Neal started at the paper in 1989 and was a reporter and state Capitol writer for more than a decade. “Business editor was a good job and I had a great team, but I missed writing,” she said.

Kordsmeier, an A-State graduate, has been a Democrat-Gazette reporter and editor since 1994.
