The Arkansas Foodbank, located at 4301 W. 65 St. in Little Rock, has received a "superior" rating from the American Institute of Baking.
The rating, which is the highest possible awarded by the AIB, was given to the Foodbank for its quality in goods handling, outstanding food safety and sanitary working conditions, as well as its proper food handling training for employees.
The Foodbank’s score of 980 out of 1,000 is the highest ever received by a Feeding America food bank. Only seven of the 200 Feeding America food banks have earned a superior rating.
"This is one more example of how the Arkansas Foodbank is leading in serving disadvantaged Arkansans with high-quality food handled safely and efficiently," said Phyllis Haynes, CEO of the Arkansas Foodbank.
The new Foodbank warehouse, which was completed last May, more than tripled the Foodbank’s storage capacity. It features more than 72,000 SF of dry, refrigerated and freezer storage.
The Arkansas Foodbank serves more than 250 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other agencies in Arkansas. Last year, 13.3 million pounds of food were distributed by the Foodbank.
