Arkansas Lottery Taps Daryl Backes as Security and Compliance Director (Movers & Shakers)

Daryl Backes, former security chief for the Missouri Lottery, has been hired as security and compliance director for the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery in Little Rock. Backes fills the position vacated by the retirement of Lance Huey in July.

Manufacturing

Mark P. Gebler has joined Magna IV Communications of Little Rock as plant manager, and Jonathan Martin has been hired as assistant plant manager. Gebler has more than 30 years of experience in the printing industry and was production director for Stephens Media in central Arkansas. Martin, who has a degree in printing management from Arkansas State University, began his career at Magna IV in 2004.

Nonprofits

Corey T. Moline of Conway has been named chief financial officer of Arkansas Community Foundation in Little Rock. Moline is a CPA who spent 17 years with Hudson Cisne & Co. of Little Rock. The Arkansas Community Foundation has assets in excess of $200 million.

Health Care

Dr. Robert C. Baker has joined the pain management clinic at White River Medical Center in Batesville. Baker received his medical degree at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock and completed an internship and anesthesiology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Baker is certified in anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Mike Whitfield of Conway has been hired by Arkansas Urology of Little Rock as director of marketing and business development. Whitfield has more than more than 15 years of business experience, including as president and director of marketing for Dynamic Energy Alliance, and he is a director in the Epoch Health Franchise Co.

Education

Ryan Johnson has been promoted to vice president for enrollment management at Central Baptist College in Conway. Johnson joined the college in 2009 and was most recently associate vice president for enrollment management.

Financial Services

April Fowler has been named manager of the U.S. Bank branch at 100 S. Main St. in Mountain Home. Fowler is a 10-year veteran of the banking industry. She joined U.S. Bank in 2010 and was most recently a branch manager in Flippin.

Law

Sarah Howard Jenkins, the Charles Baum Distinguished Professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s Bowen School of Law, has been elected to the executive committee of the American Society of Comparative Law. Jenkins has published extensively on commercial law and comparative law issues and organized several symposia of distinguished domestic scholars on significant legal issues.
