Arkansas Programs Receive $5.1M in Federal Workforce Grants

Four programs in Arkansas that provide employment and training services have been awarded more than $5.1 million total in federal grants to support their mission.

The money is adminstered through the U.S. Department of Labor and the Delta Regional Authority, a federal-state partnership that promotes economic development in historically underserved areas of eight states. 

Arkansas recipients of the Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities grants are: Advocates for Community and Rural Education of Little Rock; Arkansas Rural Health Partnership of Lake Village; Southern Arkansas University Tech and the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville.

An additional $1.5 million was awarded to Save the Children Federation Inc., a group that serves Arkansas and three other states.

“The WORC initiative continues to impact economic growth in Delta communities by providing the necessary resources to create a more prosperous future,” Delta Regional Authority Interim Chief of Staff Kemp Morgan said in a news release.

In total, more than $14.5 million was distributed to 12 programs across Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. 

“These investments alongside our federal partners link economic and workforce development to support equity, quality jobs and economic prosperity for residents in these regions in this recovery and beyond,” Angela Hanks, acting assistant secretary of the Employment and Training Administration, said in the release.
