Arkansas Tech University announced that federal grants totaling $2.97 million have been renewed to continue funding the university’s Upward Bound programs, which serve low-income high school students in the Russellville area.
Each grant is $297,601 per year for five years. The first year of funding is guaranteed. The remaining four years of funding are anticipated to be fulfilled, but are contingent upon U.S. Department of Education funding, the university said in a news release.
The grants will fund math, science and other learning programs for high school students with barriers to higher education.
“Through weekly advising and tutoring sessions, monthly Saturday events and an intense six-week summer residential program, our programs provide students with the tools necessary to be successful in high school and ultimately receive their college degree,” Jill Hendricks, the university’s Upward Bound director, said in a news release.
