The state of Arkansas is known for many things. We’ve produced a President, Fortune 500 companies, famous athletes and countless others who have influenced our country’s diverse history.
But Arkansas may not stand on firmer ground than when it comes to duck hunting. Our fine state is unrivaled in terms of heritage, opportunity and dedication to the sport. I am confident Arkansas is the only place where an 80-acre block of timber, useless for anything other than hunting ducks, sells for $600 an acre or more.
Hunters from far and wide travel to our great state for the unique experience of mallards fluttering through tree branches into gun range and they boost our economy with millions of dollars spent on duck season-related wants and needs. From the Black River bottoms in the northeast, through the rice fields of east Arkansas, to the green tree reservoirs of the Grand Prairie, Arkansas is truly a hunter’s paradise.
Our heritage and future as the “Duck Hunting Capital of the World” will continue to hinge on the tireless work of those who built the industry we enjoy.
To recognize those who played a major role, the team at Arkansas Business Publishing Group and Greenhead, The Arkansas Duck Hunting Magazine created the Arkansas Waterfowlers Hall of Fame with the goal to honor those who contributed to the state’s duck hunting industry.
Many deserving champions of conservation, hunters, duck call makers, dog trainers and landowners laid the foundation for Arkansas waterfowling. The trick was narrowing the list of worthy candidates to make this initial class.
I doubt we could have ended up with a better group of judges and hats off to them in hitting a home run out of the gate. The panel is a diverse group of waterfowlers from all regions of the state who truly respect Arkansas’ duck hunting heritage and are dedicated to its future.
Undoubtedly, there are hidden gems the selection committee needs to be made aware of so please go to ArkansasWaterfowlerHallOfFame.com and nominate someone you believe is worthy. Our hope is to extend the reach of the hall of fame to all four corners of the state.
Tickets to the induction event are available online. This will be a first class event and will set the stage for the growth of this endeavor.
Please join us December 1 at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock for a great night recognizing the deserving inductees.
Finally, I’m grateful to the individuals and businesses that have supported and partnered with us to make this an undertaking we can all be proud of this year and in the future.
