- Brandon Joiner, the former Arkansas State defensive end and recent free agent signee of the Cincinnati Bengals, was sentenced to three years in prison for his role in a 2007 robbery. Joiner was a Texas A&M player at the time when he was charged with aggravated robbery at a College Station, Texas apartment complex.
- Arkansas senior shortstop Tim Carver is one of 25 players included on the most recent watch list released for the 2012 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award.
- Arkansas center Travis Swanson has been tabbed as one of the top pro prospects at his position entering 2012. So it’s no surprise to see him among the players listed as preseason candidates for the Rimington Trophy.
- The First Tee of Central Arkansas has begun a campaign with an annual goal of $200,000 to help with operations at the public golf center, which is geared toward advancing the game among youths but is open to adults as well.
- And with new rules for playoffs concerning the 6A and 7A conferences (or is that just plain ol’ 6A/7A now?), the Arkansas Athletics Association may be making things much more confusing than they need be. Todd Traub has more.
