Baptist Health Foundation Receives $213K for Women’s Health, Oncology Initiatives

1 min read

The Baptist Health Foundation of Little Rock has been awarded $213,000 in grants from the American Cancer Society and National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) for women’s health and oncology initiatives.

Funding was awarded from the NBCF for two different programs. $123,000 was awarded for the Patient Navigation Program, which helps patients and families navigate the breast cancer services continuum of care, from outreach through treatment completion and survivorship.

$75,000 was awarded for the National Mammography Program, which provides screening and services like routine and diagnostic mammograms and ultrasounds to medically-underserved individuals.

One of the leading breast cancer organizations in the world, the NBCF aims to provide early detection, education and support services to those affected by breast cancer.

The American Cancer Society also awarded the Baptist Health Foundation $15,000 in grants to provide transportation and lodging assistance to people with cancer during treatment. The grant is part of a nationwide investment of $9 million that is expected to provide nearly 63,000 eligible patients with nearly 800,000 transportation and lodging services.

A press release from the Baptist Health Foundation stated that access to high-quality cancer treatment impacts cancer outcomes, and that a lack of the transportation and lodging needed to receive quality care can lead to missed appointments, treatment interruptions and delays in follow up care. American Cancer Society researchers found in 2023 that delayed care due to lack of transportation is associated with increased emergency room use and mortality risk among adults with and without cancer history.
