Remember James Van Doren, the New York investment banker and ex-friend of former high-flying northwest Arkansas developer Brandon Barber?
Van Doren asked to withdraw his guilty plea to one count of money laundering for Barber. U.S. District Judge P.K. Holmes III recently denied that motion.
Van Doren said his guilty plea was untruthful and that he wrongly caved to pressure in signing the plea deal. The agreement dropped additional charges that included bankruptcy and wire fraud.
Van Doren is scheduled for sentencing on Aug. 18. His lone charge carries a maximum 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
