Baxter Begins at Arkansas Surgical (Movers & Shakers)

Dr. Samuel Baxter, an orthopedic surgeon, has joined the medical staff at Arkansas Surgical Hospital of North Little Rock.

Baxter focuses on hip and knee surgery, performing procedures such as arthroplasty, arthroscopy and revision total joint replacements.

He received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He completed an adult reconstruction fellowship at the University of California-Davis.

Dr. Jose Romero, a professor of pediatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock and Arkansas Secretary of Health, recently received the Ohtli Award, the highest award given by the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs to persons residing outside of Mexico. Romero was honored for his commitment to ensuring equal and free access to COVID-19 vaccines.


Michael Thomsen, who was hired earlier this year as a professor in the Health Policy & Management Department in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ Boozman College of Public Health, was invested Oct. 6 in the inaugural Gov. Sidney S. McMath Endowed Chair in Obesity Prevention.
