2 min read

For more than 70 years, Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield has been a company that cares about people — Arkansas people.

It’s a philosophy that resonates with the company’s 3,000 employees, who are spread throughout the state, serving their friends and neighbors. It also describes the environment the company strives to create for those employees.

CITY: Little Rock
INDUSTRY: Health Care

During one of the most unprecedented health crises in modern history, Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield quickly activated its pandemic preparedness plan to move 90% of its workforce home for safety, securely connecting them remotely to work. Leadership has communicated frequently and thoroughly to keep employees updated on all aspects of the coronavirus, and employees have responded positively to the actions and support of the company.

Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s 401(k) match begins at 50% of the first 6% employee contribution up to a maximum of 100% based upon years of service. The Plan offers cliff vesting which begins at 10% for a new hire, increasing annually until the employee is fully vested on his/her sixth- year service anniversary.

Even before the pandemic, Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield was focused on employee health and wellness with an onsite clinic, fitness and wellness programs and healthy dining options. The company sees to employees’ professional health with its Leadership Development Institute and it cares for their financial health with a corporate match of 401(k) contributions and match of payroll-deducted employee giving.

Recognition programs and events include the Ten-year Club Dinner, “Putting Members First” awards and gifts and plaques for milestone achievements. Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield fights employee stress and builds camaraderie through its biannual company picnics; Customer Service Week each October and Stress Management and the Mind-body Connection, a five-week, science-based course that educates employees about the negative effects of chronic stress.

Arkansas Blue Cross and the Blue & You Foundation gives close to $4.5 million to causes that benefit the people and communities it serves.
