TEXARKANA — Former President Bill Clinton is criticizing conservative groups targeting Democratic hopefuls in his home state as he kicks off a tour to prevent a GOP takeover in Tuesday’s election in Arkansas.
Clinton on Sunday defended U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor and gubernatorial hopeful Mike Ross, saying the ads against the two are trying to mislead voters about their records. Clinton told a crowd gathered in downtown Texarkana that groups behind the ads “don’t give a rip about you.”
Clinton’s visit is the third to Arkansas to help his home state’s party.
Pryor is fighting for his political career against Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton in an expensive race that could determine which party controls the U.S. Senate. Ross is running against Republican and fellow ex-congressman Asa Hutchinson.
