Arkansas Blue Cross & Blue Shield has awarded $2.6 million to more than 100 primary care clinics across the state participating in programs that encourage innovation in patient care.
The two programs are Primary Care First, an initiative of the federal Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation, and Patient-Centered Medical Homes, a team-based health care delivery model that seeks to provide comprehensive and continuous medical care to patients with a goal to obtain optimal health outcomes.
The programs provide financial resources to encourage primary care clinics to test ideas that advance patient care, improve outcomes and reduce low-value care.
Each clinic that received an award met or exceeded clinical quality and utilization targets in 2022. The goals focused on quality of care and reducing avoidable hospital admissions and nonemergent emergency department visits.
“Innovation is a crucial element of promoting good health and preventing or limiting the impact of disease,” Alicia Berkemeyer, executive vice president and chief health management officer for Arkansas Blue Crossm, said in a news release. “These providers have employed creative tactics that produced impressive results.”
