The Windgate Charitable Foundation of Siloam Springs has awarded a $1 million grant to Bradbury Art Museum at Arkansas State University.
The university said the grant marked “another major step in its continuing philanthropic support to the museum and its educational mission.”
The foundation has provided financial assistance to the museum since 2015, helping it grow from a gallery to a museum.
The university said the museum’s Windgate Gallery is now the fourth endowed exhibition space of the six that comprise the BAM, which is located in the Fowler Center on the A-State campus in Jonesboro.
“Since being designated a museum, BAM has strived earnestly to enhance the region’s access to and appreciation for the arts by producing an ambitious exhibition schedule paired with educational programming,” Les Christensen, the museum’s director, said in a news release. “We appreciate very much Windgate Charitable Foundation’s generous gift, which has helped make it possible for school groups, special needs adults, seniors and the public to enjoy weekend workshops, Thursday evening events, guided tours and individually-tailored activities.”
Stephens Inc. COO Curt Bradbury and his wife Chucki made a $500,000 matching gift in 2015 to transform the gallery into a museum.
Curt Bradbury endowed the gallery in 2001 as a tribute to his wife, an arts patron who was formerly chair of the board of trustees at the Arkansas Arts Center of Little Rock. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from A-State and served two terms on its board of trustees.
In 2016, the museum received a $50,000 donation from the Kays Foundation.
