“More than a pawn shop.”
That’s the motto under which Braswell & Son Pawnbrokers has operated since opening in 1979. The team there has certainly made a name for themselves by working to provide a professional and enjoyable environment for their customers, considering much of their business comes from recommendations, but it doesn’t stop there.
“Braswell & Son’s mission is to build lasting relationship while meeting short-term needs in a positive atmosphere,” owner and CEO Douglas Braswell said. “The mission cannot be accomplished if the only relationship being built and the only needs being met are those of our customers. Braswell & Son’s success is built on the strength of the relationship with each team member.”
When it comes to building that team-wide relationship, it starts with a foundation of respect, something unfortunately often lost within the world of retail. A job well done is not passively dismissed, but commended and encouraged at every rank.
Store employees can earn weekly bonuses and commission from in-store performance. The management team that exceeds budget by the highest percentage receives a Rolex watch and the top three salespeople are even awarded with a cruise.
Employees also enjoy self-betterment perks like gym memberships, assistance with further business education workshops and one of the most popular offerings, a corporate chaplain.
Outside the office, Braswell & Son, now with three locations in west Little Rock, southwest Little Rock and Conway, also invests in the community it serves, with many an opportunity for team members to join in. The company donates to a number of local charities including The CALL of Pulaski County and even sponsors a law enforcement recognition dinner in Faulkner County.
Today’s fast-paced lifestyles have led to many folks feeling disconnected and isolated. Braswell & Son believes that not only do team members want to do a great job, they also want to be known and valued. That can’t happen with a solitary focus on the bottom line, but requires frequent recognition and reward at company events.

Neat Thing We Do
Among Braswell & Sons’ many philanthropic efforts, the best-known is as title sponsor for the Soaring Wings Half Marathon in Conway. The event supports Soaring Wings Ranch, a faith-based home that takes children from at-risks environments and gives them a loving place to live for as long as they need.
