Buice Drug Location to Sell

1 min read

Did you hear that the home for more than 80 years of Little Rock’s Buice Drug Store was under contract?

Owner John Wimberly confirmed to Whispers last week that a deal was in the works with a buyer from the Fort Smith area, but he didn’t give specifics.

The buyer is considering potential uses for the drugstore, including possibly as a pub, Wimberly said.

Irwin Partners in Little Rock was overseeing the deal, and broker Clark Irwin said the property at 3013 W. Markham St. was indeed under contract to sell.

John Wimberly is the son of George Wimberly, the former Little Rock mayor, city director, state representative and pharmacist who died in February at age 92.

His father bought the drugstore in the 1960s, and closed it "about a year ago," when his health began a speedy decline, Wimberly said.

"This has been such a wham-bam thing with him not being well, going into a nursing home and passing away so quickly. It’s a blur," he said.

Wimberly is selling other properties that belonged to his father as well, including an apartment building near the drugstore and a parking lot at the corner of Johnson and Markham streets.
