Ouachita County Medical Center of Camden plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization this month, said hospital CEO Glenda Harper.
The hospital has about $8 million of debt and closed its obstetrics unit earlier this month in a cost-saving measure.
The hospital has applied to become a rural emergency hospital in which the hospital provides emergency services and only admits patients for an average of less than 24 hours.
Harper is hopeful for an injection of cash from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which can’t be used for salaries or operating expenses but can be used for projects.
“We’re struggling day to day but we certainly are planning on being here.”
