Minnesota-based Cargill Inc. is closing its turkey processing facility in Springdale effective Aug. 1, Arkansas Business news partner KFSM reported Tuesday.
The closure affects about 1,100 Cargill employees and 100 local turkey producers.
Cargill said some of Springdale’s production will be transferred to facilities in Missouri and Virginia.
“This was not an easy decision to make given the impact on the approximately 1,100 people who work there and local producers. However, it is the right move to make for the future of our turkey business,” Cargill said in a statement.
The closure comes after privately held Cargill announced in December that it planned to cut 5% of its global workforce, or about 8,000 employees.
A 2024 report from Cargill said that it operates in 70 countries and sells to 125 markets, generating some $160 billion in annual revenue. That was down from $177 billion in revenues seen the year prior.
