1 min read

CenterPoint Energy of Houston, Arkansas’ largest provider of natural gas service, was reassuring customers Tuesday about its coronavirus response, offering customers help and promising continued service and safety.

It’s also promising extra care for customers and employees in addressing service issues in Arkansas, Indiana, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma and Texas.

Payment assistance, arrangements and extensions are available during the pandemic, and the company has temporarily suspended cutting off gas for nonpayment.

CenterPoint is supplying hand sanitizer, latex gloves and shoe covers to employees, and instructed them to resolve service issues whenever possible without entering homes or businesses.

“We are committed to the safety and well-being of our customers, employees, contractors and communities as the Coronavirus situation continues to evolve,” said John W. Somerhalder II, CenterPoint’s interim president and CEO. “CenterPoint Energy has activated its Pandemic Preparedness Plan and we continue to monitor updates and follow protocols from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO) and state and local officials. We are also working closely with all regulatory agencies, government entities and emergency management organizations across our service territory to help ensure uninterrupted electricity and natural gas service delivery to our customers.”

The utility is letting many employees work from home or remote locations, minimizing face-to-face meetings and increasing cleaning and disinfecting of all facilities and vehicles. Sick workers are ordered to stay home, and most air travel is restricted.
