Channel 7 Weatherman Todd Yakoubian Leaving After 18 Years

1 min read

Todd Yakoubian is changing jobs after 18 years as a meteorologist at KATV, Channel 7, in Little Rock.

Yakoubian announced his imminent departure on Twitter late Monday, thanking the station, his colleagues and viewers. He didn’t say what his next professional move would be, and didn’t pinpoint a departure date.

“Soon, I will be leaving KATV, Channel 7, and I want to thank KATV for 18 wonderful years. But most of all, I want to thank you,” Yakoubian said in a backyard video, wearing a Catholic High School T-shirt.

“I feel like we have created a bond over the last two decades. You’ve trusted me during severe weather, and you’ve trusted me with the forecast each and every day.”

He said he couldn’t yet say where he will be working, “but I promise I will when the time is appropriate.”

He praised fellow Channel 7 meteorologists Barry Brandt, Melinda Mayo and James Bryant as friends and “true professionals.”

Yakoubian, who has a broadcasting degree from the University of Oklahoma and a broadcast meteorology certificate from Mississippi State, is certified by the American Meteorological Society as a broadcast meteorologist.

He joined KATV in August 2005 after six years at WRCB-TV in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His first broadcast job was at KPAX-TV in Missoula, Montana.
