Cindy Stowe
Cindy Stowe has been named dean of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy effective July 29, the university said Tuesday.
Stowe, Pharm. D., was on the UAMS faculty from 1995-2014. Since 2014, she has been dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Sullivan University in Louisville, Kentucky. She also served as that university’s associate provost since 2018.
Schwanda Flowers has been interim dean at UAMS since Jan. 7, when Keith Olsen stepped down to become dean of the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy in Omaha.
Stowe’s initial appointment at UAMS was as an assistant professor of pharmacy practice in the College of Pharmacy in 1995. She also held an appointment in the College of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology. Stowe became a professor with tenure in the College of Pharmacy in 2009 and was the college’s associate dean from 2005 to 2014.
“With the knowledge that comes from her many years of experience here and as a dean at Sullivan, I am sure Dr. Stowe has the right skill set to be a wonderful leader for the college and for UAMS,” Chancellor Cam Patterson said in a news release.
Stowe earned her doctor of pharmacy degree in 1991 from the University of Kentucky, where she previously earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy. As dean, she will oversee all aspects of the pharmacy college.
“I am excited to be returning to the UAMS College of Pharmacy,” Stowe said. “I look forward to working with the students, staff, faculty, alumni, and pharmacy profession to advance the health and wellness of Arkansans.”
Stowe has served nationally as chair of the Institutional Research and Assessment Committee of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) as well as a delegate and Secretary of Knowledge Management for the AACP’s Council of Deans. She also is a site team member for the Accreditation Council of Pharmacy Education.
