CJRW Sweeps State Addy Awards

2 min read

Little Rock’s Cranford Johnson Robinson Woods received many of the top honors, including best in show, at this year’s central Arkansas Addy awards.

The awards were presented Feb. 21 by AdFed Little Rock, a chapter of the American Advertising Federation. Around 400 entries from both professionals and students were submitted.

AdFed presented bronze, silver and gold awards for each category. All of the gold and some of the silver winners will be forwarded to the AAF’s District 10, which includes Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas, for further competition. Gold awards from this district will then go on to compete in the national Addy awards later this year.

CJRW, the state’s largest ad agency, received 116 awards of the 150 handed out. Of CJRW’s awards, 19 were gold, 41 were silver and 56 were bronze. The following special awards were handed out:

  • Best in Show: CJRW for a cover design of Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” by Matt Owen. The design was the winner of a Simon & Schuster contest to create a cover celebrating the 60th anniversary of the novel.
  • Best of Broadcast: CJRW for the Arkansas Municipal League “Sprinkler” TV spot.
  • Best Integrated Campaign: CJRW for its Oaklawn Jockey Club contract.
  • Best Public Service Campaign: CJRW for its Bookmark Guerrilla campaign carried out for AR Kids Read.
  • Special Judges Award: The Nicholson Agency for its “Flight Plan” welcome guide for the Arkansas Federal Credit Union.

“As gratifying as our sheer number of Addys was, it was even more satisfying that they represented work on behalf of 19 agency clients,” Jay Cranford, CJRW’s chief creative officer, said in a release. “That speaks first and foremost to clients who provide us the opportunity to create outstanding work.”

Richard McKeown, senior vice president and chief public relations officer at CJRW, said the firm was “pleased with our winnings, particularly winning best of show for the third consecutive year.”

Other groups winning awards included the following Little Rock entities: Thoma Thoma, Sells Agency, Kara Darling Creative, Soundscapes, The Design Group, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Inviting Arkansas magazine and Arkansas Business Publishing Group’s own Little Rock Soirée magazine.

Finally, two students won silver and gold awards:

  • Ciara Long of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway won a gold award in the stationery category for her Energy Remedy Identity Package.
  • Mary Elizabeth Asher of Arkansas Tech University in Russellville won silver for her Intense Dental Products in the packaging category.
