Columbia Insurance Group of Missouri, a regional insurance carrier, announced an agreement with Safeco Insurance of Seattle to transfer its entire personal auto and umbrella lines of business in Arkansas and seven other states to Safeco, effective for renewals beginning Jan. 1.
Safeco is a Liberty Mutual company that sells personal automobile, homeowners and specialty products through a network of more than 10,000 independent insurance agencies throughout the United States.
Safeco will expand its agency footprint and customer base in Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and South Dakota, while Columbia will focus exclusively on commercial solutions going forward.
“We pride ourselves on empowering the success of agents and the independent agency channel,” Luke Bills, president of independent agent distribution for U.S. retail markets at Liberty Mutual, said in a press release. “This agreement is a valuable opportunity to grow business across the region and we welcome Columbia agents and customers to Safeco.”
