Consignment Store Offers Children?s Clothes, Other Items

2 min read

Because she enjoyed buying things for her four grandchildren at consignment stores, Terri McClure decided she’d like to try her hand at selling as well. Thus, Weecycle Station was born.

Weecycle Station, located at 10720 N. Rodney Parham Ave. in Little Rock, is a consignment store specializing in children’s and baby clothes, toys, furniture and equipment.

There is also a maternity section, which is something McClure said was hard to find in the area. Weecycle Station also provides a "kiddie corral" where parents can drop off their kids while they shop. The area, visible to shoppers, features a TV, a play kitchen and other toys.

McClure offers a 50 percent return on consigned items, and she tries to make sure her shelves are stocked with quality pieces. She donates items that don’t sell to charity if the owner doesn’t want them back.

McClure has introduced a program that she calls Kids Weecycle Too. Children can bring in their used items and become consigners themselves. McClure talks to them about the items, how much they might sell for and why it’s important to start managing money early.

We want them "to get excited about giving up their stuff and give them tools about money and what to do with it," she said. McClure also encourages the children to donate some of their earnings to a charity of their choice.

Since opening Nov. 5, Weecycle Station has done pretty well, according to McClure. Much of her business comes from word-of-mouth, Facebook and McClure’s three grown children and their friends. And while her husband handles the money, McClure said she recommends that potential entrepreneurs create a business plan.

"You have to know how much the up-front investment will be, how long you can go without making any money," she said. "You have to build it from the ground up."
Weecycle Station is open 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Mon.-Sat. For more information, call (501) 246-4736 or visit WeecycleStation.com.
