Cooper Makes First Payment to Roach ManufacturingLock Icon

A former Jonesboro accountant recently made a dent in a $9 million civil judgment owed to a former client from which he embezzled for more than 20 years.

Edward M. Cooper Jr. paid $531,062 to Roach Manufacturing Corp. in Trumann, which received the judgment against him in February.

The balance owed could be further reduced, as Cooper has also handed over assets including a 3,200-SF home in Mammoth Spring, which the real estate website Zillow estimated was worth $275,000. Zillow said the home was built in 2013 and has three-and-a-half bathrooms.

If you recall, the conveyor system manufacturer, represented by attorney David Wilson of Friday Eldredge & Clark of Little Rock, sued Cooper last year in Craighead County Circuit Court over allegations that included breach of fiduciary duty and conversion.

The case also has drawn the attention of the FBI and the U.S. attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Arkansas. No criminal charges have been filed against Cooper, but that could change.

Cooper also recently finalized his divorce from LaNita Cooper after 47 years of marriage. She was the one who filed for divorce and got to keep their family home in Jonesboro. He is required to pay her $1,000 a month in alimony, which will stop if his Social Security is suspended or ended.
