The Danfoss Commercial Compressors facility in Arkadelphia recently announced it was laying off more of its workers.
A news release from the company stated it was reducing its Arkansas workforce by 45 full-time employees. The factory manufactures air compressors for residential and commercial customers.
“We are re-scaling the factory to operate at reduced volumes; however, these reduced volumes will enable us to be profitable,” the release stated.
It noted that the layoffs completed “phase II of our reorganization,” which was intended to improve efficiency and competitiveness. “The construction market continues to be volatile and this is a necessary step in sizing the business to meet market conditions.”
In August 2011, Danfoss laid off about 100 employees at the same plant, citing decreased air conditioner sales. The facility still has about 200 workers.
Before being acquired by Danfoss in 2006, the factory was home to Scroll Technologies. In this capacity, it was named among the top 10 best plants by IndustryWeek magazine and received a 2001 Arkansas Governor’s Quality Award.
Danfoss has about 23,000 employees in 58 factories across 18 countries. It is based in Denmark.
