The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette of Little Rock last week announced plans to launch an “augmented reality” experience to accompany its daily printed newspaper and niche publications.
Starting with the daily paper’s July 1 edition, readers who download a free Plus application to their smart phones or tablet computers will be able to scan specially marked photos and advertisements with their devices to access video content.
The Dem-Gazette’s niche publications, Arkansas Life and Sync, also will start printing interactive issues in July.
Conan Gallaty, online director for the Dem-Gazette, said the image recognition technology of Plus connects an unmodified image with videos, photo slide shows and 3-D renderings within the app.
The Plus app is available from the App Store and Google Play.
The Dem-Gazette published the app using image recognition technology from Aurasma of San Francisco.
