The Arkansas Research Alliance announced Monday that Douglas Hutchings has been named director of the ARA Academy of Scholars & Fellows, effective July 1.

The ARA said Hutchings, who has served as CEO of Picasolar in Fayetteville, is a well-known innovator, entrepreneur and collaborative research leader with experience in launching start-up companies.

He has also been CEO of Silicon Solar Solutions in Fayetteville and is a founding board member of the Arkansas Advanced Energy Association.

The ARA Academy, founded in 2016, is composed of nearly 30 ARA fellows and scholars from the state’s five major research universities (the University of Arkansas, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Arkansas State University, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff), plus the U.S. FDA’s National Center for Toxicological Research.
