Daron Frederick, chief information officer at Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas
Daron Frederick, a former naval officer and information technology manager for the Arkansas Supreme Court, has been named chief information officer for the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas in Little Rock.
Frederick succeeds retiring CIO Robert McClanahan, who spent 42 years with Arkansas’ electric cooperatives.
Frederick spent 16 years in the U.S. Navy, worked as a team leader and developer for a banking software company and was a vice president and chief information officer in the trucking industry. Since September 2013, he has been the Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Corp.’s director of technology and security infrastructure.
“Daron has proven to be a valuable member within our organization and will continue to manage the vast technology, information security and communications networks that enable the electric cooperatives to provide reliable, affordable energy to the state’s 1.3 million electric cooperative members,” said a statement from Vernon “Buddy” Hasten, president and chief executive officer of the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas and himself a former naval officer and nuclear fleet engineer.
Hasten also praised McClanahan’s work over the decades. “I would like to thank Robert McClanahan for his selfless service to the cooperatives. He has been a part of just about every aspect of the information technology systems that power our technology infrastructure today.”
In a news release, Frederick said he looked forward to continuing his service to the cooperatives as CIO. “Our team is one of the best in the nation at being laser-focused on our mission of improving the quality of life for Arkansans and deploying the best technological solutions to achieve our operation goals both today and in the future.”
The Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas include the state’s 17 electric distribution cooperatives, Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Inc. of Little Rock, which provides services to the 17 co-ops, and Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corp., which generates and transmits wholesale electricity to them.

The distribution cooperatives provide electricity to about 600,000 homes, farms and businesses in Arkansas and bordering states.
