Electricity derived from coal has declined during the past two decades in the United States, with the annual output dropping by almost 55% between 2010 and 2022, according to Statista, a provider of consumer data and market information based in Hamburg, Germany.
Meanwhile, natural gas and renewable sources have increased their roles in the energy mix with wind and solar power accounting for the largest share of electricity capacity additions in the country.
