Engineering Consultancy Terracon Acquires Flat Earth Archaeology of Cabot

2 min read

Engineering consultancy Terracon of Olathe, Kansas, on Monday announced the acquisition of Flat Earth Archeology of Cabot, a firm that offers archaeology and cultural resources management and compliance services to clients in Arkansas and the surrounding region.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Flat Earth’s 11 employees will immediately become part of Terracon and the firm will operate as Flat Earth Archeology, A Terracon Company.

As part of Terracon, Flat Earth will continue providing national and local clients with environmental planning and cultural resources services while “gaining significantly more resources throughout Arkansas and nationwide,” Terracon said in a news release.

“This strategic move allows us to integrate new team members who will complement our existing environmental planning services outside of the region, while expanding offerings to our local clients,” Gayle Packer, Terracon’s chair, president and CEO, said in a statement. “Flat Earth’s team is an excellent fit with our existing business operations in Arkansas and allows us to strengthen our operations regionally.”

Flat Earth is the third Arkansas firm that Terracon has acquired since 2023. In July, Terracon announced the purchase of Harbor Environmental Inc., a Little R0ck-based firm that provides engineering, compliance, digital and sustainability services. Last year, Terracon purchased Pollution Management Inc., an engineering and environmental services company with offices in Little Rock and Fayetteville.

The deals are part of Terracon’s strategy of growth by acquisition. The employee-owned company has purchased 24 firms since 2017, expanding its footprint to more than 180 offices across the U.S. and growing its workforce to more than 7,000.

“Flat Earth is excited to join Terracon and offer the advantages of its nationwide resources to our clients,” Chris Branam, owner of Flat Earth, said in the release. “We also look forward to providing new clients with a high level of excellence in professional cultural resources.”
