Envirotech Vehicles Inc. of Corona, California, which is moving its headquarters to Osceola, announced Wednesday that it has been granted a manufacturing license from the Arkansas Motor Vehicle Commission.
The electric vehicle maker said it’s now the only licensed auto manufacturer in the state.
Envirotech announced last month that it had purchased a 580,000-SF facility in Osceola, where it will handle final outfitting and shipment of vehicles as it transforms the space into a manufacturing center over the next 12-18 months.
CEO Phillip Oldridge said the company is “proud to be blazing the trail as the first licensed auto manufacturer in the state.”
“Moreover, as we look to staff the facility to efficiently ramp our manufacturing operations, we are pleased to be providing an influx of jobs to Mississippi County and look forward to benefiting from the experience and expertise of the local workforce,” he said in a news release.
Envirotech expects to employ 800 people in Arkansas.
The company makes all-electric, zero-emission vehicles and zero-emission drive trains for medium to heavy-duty commercial fleet vehicles. It’s publicly traded on the OTCQX, the top tier of the three marketplaces for over-the-counter stocks.
Envirotech is one of two electric vehicle makers setting up shop in Arkansas. Canoo Inc. announced in November that it would move its headquarters to Bentonville from Texas.
