eStem Sees 18 Percent Teacher Turnover

1 min read

Your Whispers staff heard that eStem Public Charter Schools might have a number of teacher openings next year.

CEO John Bacon confirmed the openings. Seventeen – 18 percent – of the school’s 95 full-time teachers won’t be returning to the school in downtown Little Rock in the 2012-2013 school year.

Bacon offered some additional breakdowns on the departing instructors. Six of them left from eStem’s elementary school, six more from the middle school and five from the high school.

Of the 17, seven are leaving voluntarily and 10 were terminated or did not have their contracts renewed.

Bacon didn’t reveal the reasons for the departures, but it has been documented that eStem and other charter schools tend to require more work from their teachers for about the same rate of pay as other Arkansas schools.
