Ex-Ark Times Reporter Moves to Little Rock Nonprofit

1 min read

Gerard Matthews, who left the Arkansas Times in Little Rock in September to fundraise and oversee public relations for Independent Living Services of Conway, has yet another new gig.

Matthews began his job as communications director Feb. 13 at Arkansas Advocates for Children & Families in Little Rock.

Matthews worked for the Times for about three years. He wrote a media column and reported on the environment, local politics and the lottery.

His move from journalism last fall to public relations was his chance, Matthews said, to work in the nonprofit sector and see the “immediate impact in your community.”

He took the job for Arkansas Advocates, he said, so he could again not only live in Little Rock, but also work in the city. The organization, which is also a nonprofit, lobbies on behalf of mid- to low-income families.

“I love Little Rock and I really like being a part of the community, so working here just seemed to kind of fit in with that,” Matthews said.
