Facebook is set to kick off a new national program called Career Connections with a Skills Summit at the Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub at Winrock International on March 30 and 31.
The Hub said Career Connections will connect emerging talent to training opportunities, local internships and Facebook mentors.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Facebook and host this first-in-the-world program to help talented young Arkansans learn new skills and launch their careers,” Hub Executive Director Chris Jones said in a news release. “The Innovation Hub is a place where ideas, products, businesses and careers can take flight. We look forward to hosting this impressive group of students and business leaders and to seeing them soar toward great success.”
Career Connections is being launched in collaboration with the Hub, Arkansas Economic Development Commission, The Conductor, Conway Chamber of Commerce, Little Rock Technology Park, Little Rock Regional Chamber and area colleges and universities.
Applications for the program are open until Feb.15.
To be eligible, students must:
- Be Pell Grant recipients;
- Have completed coursework in business, marketing, technology, information technology or computer science;
- Be in their second year at a two-year college or in years three or four at a four-year college; and
- Have at least a 3.0 GPA
Students selected for the program will attend the Skills Summit at the Hub. The nonprofit said the event is two days of intensive training that will help students build soft skills, like professional communication, and hard skills, like brand storytelling, digital business tools and analytics and digital and social media marketing.
Skills Summit participants will then interview with Career Connections business partners for paid summer internships from May-August.
Once matched with an internship, they will become fellows in the Career Connections Fellowship for three months. Fellows will receive additional benefits, such as ongoing skills training and mentorship from a Facebook employee.
Students who are not matched with an internship opportunity will receive an Employment Best Practices webinar, connections to local resources, online networking opportunities and access to additional online tools.
