Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce To Seek Expansion of Rupple Road

1 min read

The Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce will officially recommend four lanes of construction on Rupple Road in west Fayetteville.

The Fayetteville City Council will hear arguments on the issue on March 18.

Chamber President Steve Clark said the transportation committee met last week to discuss the possibility of two-lane or four-lane construction on Rupple from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard north to Wedington Drive. Two-lane construction is expected to cost $5.3 million, while four lanes would cost $7 million.

The construction would be part of the “Mayor’s Box,” a series of construction projects along the outer boundaries of the city. Rupple is not expected to have heavy traffic initially, but Clark said businesses have expressed interest in the hundreds of undeveloped acres alongside the road, which will connect two heavily used thoroughfares.

“It’s financially responsible to start with four,” Clark said.
