Total nonfarm payroll jobs were up 1.4 percent in the third quarter, compared to numbers from a year ago, according to a state profile of Arkansas released Monday by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

Of the four sectors reported on in the profile, the government sector was the only to see a decline, 0.1 percent from a year ago.

Non-manufacturing goods saw the biggest jump at 7 percent. Manufacturing followed at 2.1 percent, and the private service-producing sector saw a 1.3 percent increase from a year ago.

The unemployment rate was at 6.2 percent in the third quarter, down 0.2 percentage points from 6.4 in the second quarter and down 1.5 percentage points from 7.7 percent a year ago.

The FDIC profile also gave an outlook on building permits and banking conditions in the state. To view the entire report, click here (PDF).
