The city of Flippin has been awarded a $3.58 million grant and received a $775,000 loan to rehabilitate and modernize its wastewater collection system.
U.S. Congressman Steve Womack, along with David Branscum, the state director of the USDA Office of Rural Development, and local leaders, made the announcement on Thursday.
“This project will ensure Flippin’s wastewater system is operating safely and efficiently for the great people and businesses it serves,” Womack said. “I thank the administration and USDA Rural Development for their partnership with the city and continued work to support the Natural State.”
Branscum said investing in rural communities is a priority of the administration and USDA Rural Development. The money will come from the USDA Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program through USDA Rural Development.
“This important grant will provide the largest upgrade of Flippin’s wastewater infrastructure in 35 years, allowing the city to rehabilitate structures and provide our citizens with enhanced services,” Flippin Mayor Jerald Marberry said in a news release.
The project includes the replacement of existing wastewater lines and manholes and expanding the system’s capacity so that it can serve an estimated 51 new users.
