Charmaine Nero, late of WCJB-TV in Gainesville, Florida, is joining KARK, Channel 4, and KLRT, Channel 16, in Little Rock.
Nero, a Brooklyn College graduate with a master’s in journalism from Columbia University in New York, reported on health, crime, community issues and technology at Gainesville. The job at Channel 20, Gainesville’s ABC affiliate, was Nero’s first after leaving Columbia, where she was president of the university’s Association of Black Journalists.
She is excited to be coming to Little Rock, where she says her philosophy will be to serve as “a voice for the voiceless.” “My ultimate goal is to return to my native New York and work as a reporter for one of the major news stations,” she said in an email to Outtakes.
KARK News Director Austin Kellerman said she would join the station in July.
