Former Agent Josh Casada Facing More Insurance ProblemsLock Icon

A former Pine Bluff insurance agent who is facing felony counts of theft, forgery and insurance fraud now has a judgment to add to his problems.

Josh Eric Casada and Casada Insurance Group Inc. of White Hall, which had their licenses to sell insurance yanked in December, recently lost a lawsuit filed by their former client Imperial Premium Finance Corp. of Kansas City, Missouri, which does business as IPFS Corp., for fraud, breach of contract, conversion and breach of fiduciary duty. A hearing is set for July 10 in front of Pulaski County Circuit Judge Chris Piazza to determine damages.

IPFS sued Casada and his insurance company in February alleging that it provided Casada with a total of $205,000 between August and October to finance insurance premiums for customers. Casada was supposed to forward that money to insurance carriers, according to the lawsuit filed by IPFS’ attorney, Raymond Harrill of Little Rock. But the lawsuit said he never did.

Casada’s attempt to represent himself and his firm in the lawsuit backfired.

Casada Insurance Group was required by law to be represented by a licensed attorney. Since Casada isn’t one, Piazza tossed the company’s filing, giving IPFS the easy legal victory. Making matters worse, Casada filed his answer to the lawsuit nine days late, which resulted in a default judgment against him.

Casada also has new criminal charges to deal with. On May 1, Casada was charged in Jefferson County Circuit Court with four counts of insurance fraud and four counts of second-degree forgery. As of Thursday, Casada had not entered a plea to those charges.

And as you may remember, in April he was charged in Pulaski County District Court with one count of theft of property, 11 counts of forgery and 10 counts of committing a fraudulent insurance act.

Whispers tried to reach Casada on his cellphone. But the phone’ voice message box was full, so we couldn’t leave a message.
