Former Chevron Corp. executive Robert N. Ryan Jr. has joined the board of Murphy Oil Corp., the global petroleum exploration and production giant based in El Dorado.
Ryan’s term became effective Tuesday, according to a company news release.
“Bobby brings a wealth of experience to the board through his extensive 39-year tenure in oil and natural gas operations,” Claiborne P. Deming, Murphy’s board chairman, said in a statement. “Bobby will be an asset to our board and provide unique expertise in exploration, which is a key tenet of our strategy.”
Before retiring last year, Ryan was Chevron’s vice president of global exploration, responsible for the company’s multibillion-dollar worldwide exploration program for 15 years. He was also a member of Chevron’s upstream and corporate executive leadership teams, Deming said.
As the Texaco lead on the Upstream Integration Team in the Chevron-Texaco merger of 2000-2001, he played a key role in redesigning Chevron’s exploration program.
Ryan began his career at Texaco in 1979 as an offshore geologist with Texaco. He held a variety of technical and management positions in exploration and production, including Gulf of Mexico exploration manager, before becoming GM for international exploration at Chevron in 2001.
Ryan has held several industry leadership roles and is on the Board of Advisors at the School of Science and Engineering at Tulane University in New Orleans, where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
