1 min read

Fort Smith City Administrator Ray Gosack announced his retirement Friday morning, and the city’s board of directors named his deputy, Jeff Dingman, as a temporary replacement.

Gosack, who has worked in city government for more than 31 years, has been with the city for the past 16 years, including the past four as city administrator.

According to Mayor Sandy Sanders, Gosack told him and the city’s board during an executive session Tuesday that he planned to step down. Gosack’s last day is Friday, and he plans to use vacation days until officially leaving in August.

“This is a great loss for the city and the people of Fort Smith,” Sanders said. “Ray Gosack is a man of integrity. He was always focused on what was best for Fort Smith. I really regret he decided to retire.”

At an emergency meeting Friday afternoon, the city board named Dingman interim city administrator. The board plans to meet again in August to determine its next steps to permanently filling the post.
