FR8relay, a relay trucking logistics company in Bentonville, on Tuesday announced that it received a $1 million grant from the National Science Foundation.
The Phase II grant is through the Small Business Innovation Research Program. The grant is for FR8relay’s machine learning model project that is designed to improve the efficiency and resilience of the company’s relay concept.
FR8relay CEO Aayush Thakur co-founded the company in 2017 in Memphis and it moved to Bentonville in 2020. The company’s concept is to use computer modeling to allow trucks to relay their loads with other trucks to improve shipping times.
FR8relay has received grants previously from such government entities as the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Energy.
“Securing this NSF grant is a significant milestone for FR8relay, reaffirming our commitment to improving efficiencies in the trucking industry,” Thakur said in a news release. “This project will bring us one step closer to a more efficient and sustainable freight transportation system for the entire country.”
