Fran Hagstrom Ready to Support UA’s College of Education & Health Professions (Super Mover)

Appointed by UA Dean Tom Smith, Fran Hagstrom will serve as the first assistant dean of health professions in the College of Education & Health Professions. Her position is effective Aug. 19, and she will provide administrative support for accreditation and curriculum matters in addition to other academic aspects of the college’s several health-related programs.

Hagstrom received her bachelor’s degree in speech at Southwest Baptist University in 1967. She went on to earn a master’s degree in speech at St. Louis University before moving to Texas and receiving another master’s degree, this one in language sciences, from the University of Texas Health Science Center. In 1994, she graduated with a Ph.D. in developmental psychology from Clark University.

She joined the UA’s College of Education & Health Professions in 2002 and now serves as head of the university’s department of rehabilitation, human resources and communication disorders. She also instructs and mentors students, teaching in the areas of normal speech and language development, child language disorders, cognitive communication development and psycholinguistics. In addition to her teaching, Hagstrom once served as coordinator of the communication disorders program and has also published works on semiotic mediation of mental functioning and cognitive-communicative change across an individual’s lifespan.
