From the Mayor: Welcome to Searcy

3 min read

As the mayor of Searcy, I am excited for the opportunity to share the good news about our city with you. Searcy has always been a great place to live and work, and the recent growth and development outlined in this report serves as an indicator of an even brighter future.

Although Searcy is known for its small-town spirit, evident in our friendliness, hospitality, and sense of community, it also offers the best of what you might find in a larger city. With ongoing improvements throughout our parks system, an ever-growing number of cultural activities, and a commitment to celebrating our heritage through historic preservation and downtown revitalization, Searcy offers a high quality of life.

We recently completed the process of developing a 20-year master plan focused on parks, active transportation, and infrastructure. This plan was developed through a tremendous amount of public engagement and creates a vision for the future of our community that will have a positive impact for generations to come. In March, our community voted to move forward with implementing this plan which means we will continue the process of designing and constructing a new community center, outdoor water park, ball fields, bike trails, pedestrian paths, park improvements, and so much more.

Business and industry are the heartbeat of our local economy. Industries such as the Bryce Corporation, Matthews International, and XPO Logistics Manufacturing have recently undergone significant expansion in their facilities and the creation of new jobs. In order to provide a qualified workforce for these growing industries, our educational partners have teamed up to create workforce development programs providing direct pathways to fulfilling careers.

Searcy is also home to world-class education, health care and financial institutions like Harding University, ASU-Beebe Searcy, Unity Health, ARcare, and First Security Bank.

Our business-friendly ecosystem is getting the attention of national chains as a great place to invest in opening new locations. We’ve recently welcomed Texas Roadhouse, Hobby Lobby, Old Navy, Whataburger, and Academy Sports to name a few.

As the winner of season 4 of “Small Business Revolution,” we know it is our small businesses that make Searcy truly special. Our pastries, bar-b-que, craft burgers, and coffee options are definitely worth a visit!

Community events and festivals attract thousands of visitors each year and allow us to share what we love about Searcy with others. Our Holiday of Lights is an experience for the whole family and has even recently garnered the attention of Southern Living Magazine. We welcome you to check out our historic Pioneer Village, catch a flick at the Rialto Theater, take a stroll down Art Alley, or ring in the new year at our Beats & Eats NYE Ball Drop. There’s no shortage of food, fun, arts and culture for all ages.

How has Searcy created this forward momentum? In a word, community. It is the combined efforts of strong and engaged local government, leaders in business, industry and education and, most of all, a highly invested community that cares deeply about our city. Searcy is proof that we are “better together,” and we look forward to sharing the best of our city with you.
