David Houk, 33, owner of Functional Health & Fitness LLC in Little Rock, opened his business to ensure that the active aging population has an outlet to stay fit and physically healthy.
Functional Health & Fitness combines physical therapy with gym memberships for aging individuals, including baby boomers. “I can’t extend someone’s life but I can improve it,” Houk said.
Houk, a strong advocate of the drug-free approach to therapy, said the options he provides at Functional Health & Fitness for osteoporosis and fibromyalgia care set his facility apart from others.
Functional Health & Fitness opened in August 2013 and operates in the same facility as Ageless Health & Fitness, using the same therapists and health professionals. Houk has plans within the next year to expand his business’ care options to include one to two independent contractors for Functional Health & Fitness’ 20 to 30 clients each week.
“The new practice addresses pain issues and empowers clients to become proactive in their health care through exercise designed specifically for issues associated with aging bodies,” a Functional Health & Fitness press release states.
Treatment at Functional Health & Fitness focuses on osteoporosis, arthritis and fibromyalgia. Functional Health & Fitness provides physical therapy through postural assessment, soft tissue mobilization, exercise, manual therapy methods and treatment.
“I wanted to bring quality physical therapy options to the world and make sure the patient is valued,” he said.
Additional services include treating vertigo through the Epley maneuver.
Functional Health & Fitness is open Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. for physical therapy client services and from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. for gym services.
