Innovation Hub, EAST Initiative Receive Best Buy Grants for Tech Learning

1 min read

The Innovation Hub and the EAST Initiative have received grants from the Best Buy Foundation to support youth technology access and learning.

The Innovation Hub, an entrepreneurial resource and education center based in the Argenta district of downtown North Little Rock, received a $6,380 grant through Best Buy’s Community Grants program in partnership with the Best Buy store on McCain Boulevard.

EAST Initiative, the Little Rock educational nonprofit that promotes student-driven, project-oriented service learning through technology, received a grant of $5,750 from the Best Buy Foundation.

The grant will be used to purchase 50 Arduino starter kits, which include small, programmable micro-controllers, sensors and accelerometers, and will enable the EAST Initiative to train 60 students from 30 different schools, the organization said. The kits can be used to create interactive computers or robotics that then can be incorporated into student projects.

“The flexibility of the Arduino makes it an ideal fit for EAST programs, and we’re very grateful to the Best Buy Foundation for helping us put them in students’ hands,” said Matt Dozier, EAST Initiative president and CEO.
